2009 Plans

We have decided to forego a festival in 2009, with the intent of coming back strong in 2010. However, we want to keep the foundation of our dharma community collaboration strong in 2009, even without a shared event. To that end, we invite everyone to visit all the local participating Buddhist centers over the coming months, in order to participate in and experience their practices.

Rather than having a standard festival this year, the Nashville Buddhist Festival Board has voted to have a "reverse festival." In other words, we encourage everyone to visit each others' centers this year, in the spirit of harmony and cooperation among all Buddhists in the Nashville area.

To see the meeting times of participating centers, visit the Nashville Calendar page. You will also find a joint calendar listing the major dharma events and retreats of all our centers.

We are also beginning a regular email newsletter listing major news and special events of our community sanghas. To stay up to date on the latest news, sign up for our email list.

For those who are new to this area or haven’t yet begun to practice with a specific sangha, our Nashville Buddhist Festival website is a great resource. Visit the Host Centers page for a description of all of the participating meditation groups. You are welcome to visit and practice with any of these groups

The 2008 Festival took place October 4, with the theme of "Being Present. Presentations were given by six host centers, introducing the views and practices of their traditions. More details and a download of the program may be found in Festival Information.

Plans for 2009 will be under discussion in the coming weeks.
