The Nashville Insight Meditation Group

Theravada Buddhism

Every Wednesday at 7:15pm (sitting by 7:30pm) and Sunday morning at 9  a.m., 99 Lyle Avenue, Nashville, TN. A small yet diverse group of people who come together on Wednesday nights to engage in Buddhist meditation. You don't have to know how to meditate or know anything about Buddhism to try meditation. You can start wherever you are. Older students in the tradition of Mahasi Sayadaw of Burma are currently leading sessions. The evening consists of chanting in the ancient language of Pali for the first 10 minutes, then about 50 minutes of seated meditation with a walking break for newcomers if they wish. Afterwards, a discussion is held to help demystify the meditation practice so that it may be a practical benefit in our daily lives. The evening closes at around 9:30pm.http://www.nashville-insight.org/

The Nashville Mindfulness Center

The Nashville Mindfulness Center is dedicated to the practice of mindful meditation in the tradition of Zen master and Nobel Peace prize nominee Thich Nhat Hanh. Our practice at the NMC is one of touching the wondrous, refreshing, and healing elements inside us and around us, and nourishing the seeds of joy, peace, love, and understanding in ourselves, thus facilitating the work of transformation and healing in our consciousness. Through the teachings of the Buddha’s realization of enlightenment, we cultivate compassion, insight, and awareness, but we do not worship him as a deity. We find inspiration from the texts of other spiritual traditions as well, and respect the right of others to choose what to believe, and how to decide. Many of our members practice Christianity and Judaism. We are aware that life is available only in the present moment and that it is possible to live happily in the here and now… We smile often.

A meditation practice center since 2003, the Nashville Mindfulness Center was officially established as a mindfulness center in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh in March of 2006, the center is coordinated by ordained Tiep Hien (Order of Interbeing) member Skip Ewing. Skip was ordained by Thich Nhat Hanh in June of 2006. Sundays 9:30am-11am, Tuesdays 6:30pm-7:30pm (beginning in June), periodic half-day, full-day, and weekend retreats.www.nashvillemindfulnesscenter.org or email compassion@nashvillemindfulness.org

One Dharma Nashville

One Dharma Nashville is a meditation group that embraces all Buddhist traditions and is not affiliated with any one. The three main Buddhist traditions of Zen, Vipassana and Tibetan have in common certain key elements and practices such as mindfulness, loving-kindness, compassion and non-attachment. These practices took root from Buddha's strong aspiration that all beings find peace and freedom from suffering. At One Dharma, we put the emphasis on these core practices, which can be utilized by anyone whether Buddhist or not. One Dharma Nashville meets each Monday night, 7 - 8:30 in the meditation room at Nashville's First Unitarian Universalist Church on Woodmont Blvd. Our service consists of meditation, chanting and discussion. Experienced meditators as well as those who are completely new to Buddhist teachings and practices are welcome to join us.
